    Vitamin Analysis

Man, its been a while since I added some news!  Not that I haven't been working on the site, but most of the changes over the last few months were updates to boring pages like the homepage, login/logout pages, contact pages, etc., bringing them up to date with the new site theme i'm working on.

But I always love to introduce something new, so I took a break from the boring updates to create the first of what will be many individual nutrient analysis pages.  Of course, to start it off right means I need to start at the beginning:  so, without further ado, I present the Vitamin A analysis page!

This page gives you a quick summary of why Vitamin A is important in nutrition as well as giving some tips on where you can get the most Vitamin A from.  But more importantly, this page analysis your food entries and provides two important pieces of info:

    • Vitamin A Intake Chart - This chart shows your daily Vitamin A intake over the entire time you have been logging foods into FoodsDatabase.  Its kind of neat looking back and seeing the rise and fall of your Vitamin A as you try to reach that magical goal of 100% daily.  You are getting 100% each day, right? Surprise
    • Top Sources - This little table is pretty neat too.  It shows you the top 10 sources of Vitamin A in your diet.  What we do is take every single food entry you've made and add the Vitamin A content for each individual food together, then divide it by the number of times you ate the food to get a ranking no.  Then we show you the 10 foods you eat the most that have contributed the most Vitamin A to your diet.

Don't be surprised if you notice that milk is ranked higher than carrots are on your list, even though carrots are higher in Vitamin A content per serving.  This would happen because you drink more milk than you eat carrots, so milk becomes a top source of Vitamin A in your diet.

I will be adding each of the 25+ nutrients into the website as time allows; although the first time is always the hardest and the rest should be relatively easy.  I really hope you find this useful, I've tried to create a site that is about more than just calories, and this is another tool I think will help differentiate FoodsDatabase from the rest of the pack.

    Re: Vitamin Analysis

Very cool Louis! I like how it takes info from the foods I've eaten and charts it on the graph.  It encourages me to keep on eating them.  I should definitely eat some beef liver from time to time and keep taking my multi-vitamin.  Hey, I C Vitamin C too!  Idea

Glad you like.  You should be seeing many more over the next two months...I should be able to put a new one out a week.
